Bordeaux FranceBordeaux is a port city on the Garonne River in southwestern France. The city of Bordeaux is the ninth largest city in France. It is the known as La perle D'Aquitaine (The Pearl of Aqutaine) as well as La Belle Endormie (Sleeping Beauty) due to the old center which had black walls due to pollution. However, don't fret, for that part of the city had been completely renovated and fixed up.
Bordeaux is the world's major wine industry capital. It is also home to the world's main wine fair called the Vinexpo. Wine has been produced in this region since the 8th century.
A small bit of knowledge; the men of Bordeaux are called Bordelais and the women Bordelaises. The term for men is also referred to the city and its surrounding region.
Oceanic ClimateBordeaux's climate is classified as an oceanic climate. The summers tend to be warmer and the winters milder than most areas with this similar classification.
Winters are mild due to the westerly winds from the Atlantic. Summers are warm and long due to the Bay of Biscay’s influence. The average winter temperature is 44.8 degrees F, but winters can be even warmer than that. Frosts in the winter are a commonplace, occurring several times during winter but snowfall is rare and only happens about once every three years. The summer temperatures are about 69.3 degrees F, though the record high can be as much as 100 degrees F. Typically, the range stays within the 70's though.
Flowing VineyardsBordeaux is better known for its economy and wine then culture. However, it is one of the first city's in France to be created as an architecture exhibition and research centre. Bordeaux offers a large number of cinemas and theaters, as well as many music venues. And most know is the festivals that happen throughout the year.
